could you take a better top view photo shot of the fish? its difficult to judge, unless your emphasis is on the cheeks sad.gif

Yah, take a proper pic including the tails!

But as it is now, I like its thick back and short peduncle. Put this ranchu up on the banner to replace the existing piece which is so uncomfortable to look at being a defective unbalanced fish!! Sorry.

In a top view ranchu competition significantly more weight is placed on the tails. Study the ranchus that received rave reviews in this forum, or look at those photos posted in the following thread. If you look carefully at the photos of prize winning ranchus, some don't even have what you would consider a good headgrowth! I hope that will make you realize you're focusing on the wrong aspect of a top view ranchu.

U guys very niao leh. Actually this fish looks not too bad. Slightly over-developed, but owner should be able to control.

Care to elborate further? Can I assume that the fish is over-developed in the cheek at his age?

Should such growth be appearing later in the goowth stage for a good ranchu?

Does that mean that the head willl get to huge as he grows?

Any comment is appreciated ... good_very.gif

I wrote post #4. My apologies if I sounded picky. It's a nice (but like you said over-developed) ranchu but the owner showed the pic without the all important tails. To me no matter how nice the headgrowth is, the ranchu sucks if the tails are bad. Hope I clear it up.

since owner does not show the tail, so comment based on the body and head. Overall still okay. Good or bad fish does not depends on how the parts grow, but the overall balance of growth.

Such large growth might not be good for such a young fish, of course, nice for many hobbyists. Can be a good tosai with good outstanding features, but not easy to go pass nisai or oya stage. Keep it longer and observe the development.

It's all up to individual objectives.

To give you an exemple of a fantastic Tosai that also can become a good Nisai and Oya. This is a Tosai Ranchu bred by Mr. Kawai. It was 6th at the Okayama Ranchu Show 2004. I think it is one of the best Tosai I saw this year.
