Any comments for the sole surviving member from my oct thai trip?






Any wondering, it is a male.. hence may not be as round as the female..

does female fish looks rounder? ..hey nice fish nice...but i prefer darker red. Should the hump be more 'squarish' ?

Hi,
Fish look balance, without its head dipping downward. Finage look fine, no pinch or curl. No broken first ray on the dorsal. Fish body mass look healthy, not underfed or overfed.
I feel that the fish has too much white, the red colour spots are just not strong enough. The red near dorsal may turn yellow as it grows. The rest of the red/orange spots may disappear and eventually turn into a white fish with a yellow patch.

Eh! I like that! I going for a clean look now. I am feeding it all wheat germ w/o carotene elements or any other colour enhancing pellets. But I do hope it turns all white and no yellow though.

As a general thought, I think it is much harder to change a fish to white or stay black thn gettin it into orange or red... there is too much products in the market for colour enhancers... but no specific product for a fish to stay white or esp black.. any thoughts?

Agree w the hump n tail on both counts, but I was particular about the gender of the fish and it was darn hard to look for a male one.. there is always seem to be a shortage of males in LFS..

I heard also that males usually looks skinnier and less attractive to females.. is this a true statement?

Hump is not high enough. It is better if the hump slope is steeper and the head is wedged in. On top of that, I prefer ryukin to have more red.

Can easily get something similar in Singapore... cheaply.

That's not true for goldfish. Beautiful goldfish can exist as a male or female

Rounder body may be more prominent in TVR because you are viewing the fish from top. A pregnant female may appear rounder in the stomach area because she is full of eggs. But it is not an important issue.

agree w Desireless, hump is lacking.
As to getting in cheaply, well think there is a run of good ryukins last few months and we def can get that, but this season comes and goes. This time it might be orandas... s I spot some good ones in QianHu abt 2 weeks back.
Anway, I top up my limit of ryukins and prob ranchus, not goin to buy anything the next few months/years/decades... w my last BKK trip last week

As to beautiful males, I prob hav not done much searching.. as the ones I usually like happen to be female.. (think tat makes me a complete heterosexual in humans n fishes... hahaha!!) ... gotta train my eye n spot the "pretty" male ones ... (hmm.. maybe in Changi.. hehehe!)

Very true beautiful goldies can exist as male or female. It's always been misunderstood that females are rounder than males. 80% of all my males have been stockier and rounder than my female goldies. Although bigger my female goldies are mostly just big in size not as chunky and as round proportaionally And as for beauty it's all on the eye of the beholder. For example this ryukin looks young and I can guarantee that if feed and nurished correctly it's hump will turn out amazing and it will become very stocky. Having a beautiful and healthy goldy depends on the caregiver/owner/hobbist. Bad caregiver/owner/hobbist only equals poor health and death of a goldy. Ryukin looks great nice touch with the red dot smach on the hump.
