Surely your impression that "top view or side view is up to ... anyone to say" can't be right if Allan's apologetic post earlier to highlight that the ranchu isn't a topview, despite looking like one, is something to ponder over with??

Honestly it's tough to explain what are the differences between a top view and a side view ranchu.

Many people are fascinated by "top view" ranchu becoz it has a squarish head.  Some even label any tom, dick and harry Japanese ranchu as "topview" ranchu.  It's like seeing a woman with blonde hair and immediately mistaken the Ah Lian from Bukit Merah an Ang Mo Cha Bor!

So how to tell a real topview ranchu apart?

Unfortunately I really don't know how to even begin explaining it.

I'll try to put it down in words after I gather my thoughts (some day).
