Hi guys,
I am a newbie in goldfishes. Recently, I have been doing alot of research on rearing goldfishes (water cycle and condition, goldfish diseases, etc). I read that per goldfish actually needs 38 litres of water each. Am I crowding the goldfishes given the current tank volume? In addition, is the current water flow (~1200litres/hr) too strong for the goldfishes? Below are the picture and attributes: ![]() Aquarium Setup CODE Tank Capacity = Length (cm) * Width (cm) * Height (cm) / 1000 = (120 x 40 x 50) / 1000 = 240 litres (65 gallons) Current Water Volume = (120 x 40 x 30) / 1000 = 144 litres Filtration: Jebo 828 28W 1200L/H (Canister Filter) Total no. of goldfishes = 9 (each ~4cm or 1.5inch) Thanks in advance. ![]() |

Hi,
16 ltr per fish is too low, the recommendation is 80 ltr per fish. Please read this guide written by Bro CP: Beginner's guide, and another one by Bro Goldrush: My Ten Commandments Your current water flow is too strong, max 3 times of water vol (450 ltr/hr) if I may recommend. Strong current is not good for goldfish. Rgds, William |

Rgds, William Harlow KokiBali, thanks for the reply. *OMG* 80 litres per fish!?! ![]() Just 1 more question: Does 80 litres per fish apply to all sizes of goldfishes (cos my fishes are only ~1.5inch each)? PS: I believe there is a flow control valve on the filter, will turn to less than half of current flow. Thanks alot. ![]() |

Its just a guide; many other factors such as frequency of feedings and amount of water changes plays a part too.

... and don't forget, your fish will grow. If you keep the recommended ratio, no need to buy another tank to house your fish when they grown up. Less problems too, as overpopulated tank is prone to disease.
