RafflesGold Forums _ RafflesGold Hotspots! _ LFS & Farms That Carry Quality Goldfish

Posted by: HappyBuddha Sat, 22 Nov 2003 8:39 am

This list is not exhaustive. Feel free to add those I miss out.

The way goldfish is, no LFS or farms could guarantee the quality of fish they sell. A bro may catch a good one from a certain LFS but it does not mean you can also find an identical one when you visit.

When bros do post good fish sighting, you better be quick to move your butts to catch one yourself too, within 24 hours.

Looking for THE ranchu is probably a game of luck. Patient is the key for success. Narrowing down your search to the following LFS and farms may help.

You can find a comprehensive list of other LFS in Sinagpore, and the details of below listed LFS such as their address and phone numbers etc, from the below link.

http://www.aquarealms.com/lfs/lfs_list.php?country=1

To keep this topic as a lst of purely LFS and farms, please post their relevant discussion, updates and corrections at http://www.rafflesgold.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=5106.

"C328" - Clementi Florist and Aquarium

Usually have a few small tubs and glass tanks of goldfish. Occasionally can find cheap and nice ranchu, demekin and ryukin. Has the largest selection of accessories with competitive pricing. The bosses and helpers are friendly and pretty knowledgeable too. It’s impossible to select fish on crowded hours. Closed on Sundays. There are three LFS on the same block. The real C328 is the one next to Neptune Clinic.

Things to do: Eat clay-pot rice at the next-door coffee shop and visit PolyArt Aquarium further down the block.

"AC" - Aquatic Connection

The place master keepers hang out. You think the fish got standard or not? biggrin.gif Honest shopkeeper, Seah, makes this a well-liked goldfish shop. May not have constant supply of quality goldfish but when shipments do come in, ohmygod..., the fishes are good and competitively priced as well.

http://www.can.com.sg/neocan/en/mapfinder/postal_result.html?showmap=yes&searchType=standard&searchText=380053

Things to do: Hang'out with the goldfish dudes.

Posted by: HappyBuddha Sat, 22 Nov 2003 8:48 am

"TFT" - The Fish Tank

Often have nice Thai side and top view ranchus. Oranda and Demekins are usually available as well. Price is quite a tad high according to some bros. Regular clients get telephone call updates on new arrivals. Others must try their luck weekly. Used to bring in quality top-view Japanese. Generally a reliable source of good thai ranchus. Noon to 8 pm. Closed on Sunday (I think.)

"Ben" - Ben Wong @ Tiong Bahru Market

Since the closure of the TB Market for renovation, Ben has moved to a new shop on the same block as Keong Seong. It's called Wu Hu (五湖). It's one of the cutest LFS I've ever been to occupying half a HDB shop yet has billions of little fish tanks with all kinds of fishes on sale. biggrin.gif

http://www.can.com.sg/neocan/en/mapfinder/postal_result.html?showmap=yes&searchType=standard&searchText=160022

Things to do: Visit Keong Seong. Next door bakery sells "home made" kaya spread that's pretty good...

"JK4" - Jalan Kayu 4 (2 shops: Front and Behind)

Shop in front:
Has constant supplies of Thai and Chinese ranchus. Ryukins are also in abundance. Price is always on the acceptable range. Note that the uncle's face will turn black if he sees you stirring his fishes and still not buying lol.gif. Breeds his own discus and ranchus too.
Challenge: Try your best to tickle the stern bald Teochew uncle. nananana.gif

Shop at the back:
Next, you might want to walk about 20m away to another farm, also known as "JK4", which share the same building. It is more commonly tagged as "JK4 - the behind one". Have fun talking to the white-haired uncle.
He has several small cement ponds that house small goldfishes. Rents out large cement ponds for local aquarists.

Things to do: Summer Koi is just across the bridge. They import TVR BBR from Japan from time to time

Swee Seng Aquarium

Often overlooked but this LFS, not far from C328 and C354, usually has quite a number of tanks with nice goldfish.

http://www.can.com.sg/neocan/en/mapfinder/postal_result.html?showmap=yes&searchType=standard&searchText=597148

Lot 35 Pasir Ris Farmway 2

Where there used to be just one block selling goldfish, ie, "35A", now there are four blocks within the same lot/compound selling goldfish. The selection is huge and makes this one of the best place to shop for goldfish (if you drive.)

http://www.rafflesgold.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=522&view=findpost&p=7669

http://www.can.com.sg/neocan/en/mapfinder/postal_result.html?showmap=yes&searchType=standard&searchText=519317

The oldest established shop is block A, carrying a large selection of goldfish from Ranchu, Ryukins to even bubble eyes. Block E is relatively new but carries Ranchus only. Block F, according to a few bros, used to have good ranchus but lately their quality have degraded. Block B is the newest kid on the block that I have not visited before.

Things to do: Drop by No 8 which is located diagonally across the road. An up and coming farm named "Liang Sheng" has average quality goldfish at "farm prices". They reportely bought a farm in China and we may soon buy quality chinese goldfish. Hate their current pricing practice of jacking up the price and then use the "Buy One Get One Free" gimmick. Go to Mainland which is nearby around the corner.

AMK708 - Hup Seng Aquarium

Some bros feel that the prices is a little high in this LFS at AMK Central but it's one LFS that your chances of landing a good catch is high. It is rumored that they are related to "35A" which explains why the goldfish quality is high. tongue.gif

http://www.can.com.sg/neocan/en/mapfinder/postal_result.html?showmap=yes&searchType=standard&searchText=560708

The LFS is so huge it occupies the whole of block 708 ah!

Things to do: Small stall in the coffee shop of blk 704 sells nice chinese goreng pisang. A short walking distance away at Blk 722 is a relatively new generic LFS ("Hai Yang") that sometimes have decent goldfish at affordable prices. Drop by Tip Top Curry Puff on the same block and feast away! "S11" at Blk 711 has a western food stall that serve large juicy proportion. So... now you have excuses to visit Hup Seng; for Lunch, Tea Break, and Dinner as well.

====
UPDATE: June-2005 - Hup Seng at AMK 708 has moved to rejoin at Pasir Ris 35A.

Posted by: HappyBuddha Tue, 24 Feb 2004 11:16 am

"AMK133"

"High-end ranchu", "abit pricey", "One pretty nice but... expensive man", "The price i can't afford to play with" etc are some of the comments on this relatively new LFS.

People still go despite the high asking prices because you can catch almost perfect ranchus at this LFS. biggrin.gif

http://www.can.com.sg/neocan/en/mapfinder/postal_result.html?showmap=yes&searchType=standard&searchText=560133

Closed on Sundays.

Things to do: Er.... nothing too interesting around that neighbourhood.

UPDATE: 7-August-2004 - AMK 133 is no longer in business.

This is probably Singapore's one and only goldfish farm. The address is 20 LCK Lane 9A.Name of farm I have no idea, but the owner is Mr Toh Hp96249770. He only speaks mandarin or hokkien.

Enjoy!

Some of the goldfish produced in his farm. A very special long tail ranchu as shown. Some have tails like a tosakin.

He has got very beautiful black ranchus which is selling at attractive pricings. He told me that he sells at wholesale price if you buy in larger quantity. He has 38 ponds many blue tubs at the moment with plenty of room for expansion should market demand increases.

Never knew that goldfish farm still exist in Singapore today. FYI, some of his red/white ranchus and black ranchus are sold in our LFS as Thai imports. What an irony!

I think Sam goldfish farm have move to 70 pasir ris fish farm road 2, it is diagonal to Ong Tropical fish Aquarium. (this information is given by bros from Arofanatics goldfish forum)

Ivan's Shop (within Fish City Pte Ltd)
Tel: 9697-6991 (Ivan)

This shop has no name and resides within the "Fish City" lot. There are a few units within that lot and this shop is located at one far corner from the entrance so just follow the signboards leading to the shop. It is a collaboration between a Thai farm and a Singaporean. Brings in quality thai Side View Ranchus, Top View Ranchus and orandas. Fishes are at the pricey end though.

Things to do: There is one well-known tank maker "WeeYang" just around the corner. http://www.rafflesgold.com/forums/index.php?s=&showtopic=10&view=findpost&p=37661 is also within the same lot. When you are done, swing by to the http://www.can.com.sg/neocan/en/mapfinder/postal_result.html?showmap=yes&searchType=standard&searchText=699008 which is just nearby for its fabulous food.

By cab. biggrin.gif

Else you have to wait for weekends, there is a bus service from Choa Chu Kang MRT to Farmart. Drop off at Farmart then walk about 10 minutes downhill.

Have to dial 6552 1111 and pay $3 surcharge. And even then, cab may not find the way there.
Better off visit on weekends.

I'll be going to singapore for a few days. Might spend a whole day just to tour some shops. Any good places to visit for nice goldfishes? All kinds but preferably where there are also top views. Thanks!

Mr Toh is no longer selling Goldfish, he has since switched to Guppies.
