RafflesGold Forums _ Other Fresh & Tropical Fish / Planted Tanks _ Why Do Neon Tetras Slowly Keep Dying One By One?

Posted by: ElitGold Sun, 09 Aug 2009 12:01 am

Hi,

I've been rearing groups of neon tetras in a 2ft tank with potted plants. however gradually overtime, one by one keeps falling sick and dying. feeding every morning, once daily and 40% water change with anti-chlorine once weekly.

Nothing seems to be wrong with the tetras as they look healthy and always feeding in a frenzy. but i need to understand why the gradual decline in the numbers?

Looking forward to some answers. Thanks

hello, I'm familiar with this problem

best way to eliminate this problem is to buy tetras in schools and to keep the heater on all year round

Hello
I had the same problem a while back. For me it was an intestinal parasite in the fish. What I did was keep the tank temperature on the low end and treat with prazi. wild caught rummy nose suffer from this as well.
You see in the wild the water temperature is a little cooler and the parasite is not an issue. But in the tank in warm water the parasite works faster killing the fish.
In the future I found a vendor who imported from a German breeder and I never again had this problem.
