Anyone got any plant recommendations for a goldfish tank setup?
Read that Java fern is a good combi. any others? If I don't use CO2, will it be ok?
I have Java Fern in my clear water tank for almost one year. You don't need to put it with substrate. You can tie to the rock. You don't need any high tech stuff such as high wattage lighting system or CO2 injection. Just be careful when you choose the rock. Dont' choose the one with sharp edge which will harm your fish.
Java fern grows at a moderately slow rate. Other suitable plants are anubias, which also do not require substrate, and amazon swords in azalea pots (the wide, short clay flower pots) would also work. You may have a problem sustaining duckweed in a tank with goldfish, as many of them absolutely love it. It is easy enough to culture in a bucket though, and that ensures that you always have some on hand to feed your fish.
I hv some Hornwort in me FGT. Read its good fr absorbing nitrates. But not growing well coz not enough sunlight. Me ranchus dont touch it. Think coz they r well fed, n got wall algae fr them to graze.
Happy planting
you can try some nanas with big leaflet....
Bought a packet of duckweed few days ago. The goldfish love it so much. But unfortunately, only managed to feed for few days as the duckweed died and rot in the plastic container after about 4 days. Can the expert advise how to keep/culture the duckweed so they dont die. Thanks.
Hey i had a couple tanks from 10g to larger and elodea/anarchis works very well. Most goldfishwont touch it and it grows like crazy after is has rooter. It can grow either free-floating or planted in the substrate of your choosing. The only thing that is bad is that a strong filter will cause the free floating ones to stick onto the intake of your filters. Other than that you could use java moss too(just attach with rubber bands to a piece of driftwood or rock). I have had wonderful experiences with this plant too. They both don't need much lighting and grow exponentially after they are settled. Well hope this helps!!!
any pics to show???
I m now hving christmas moss and java moss in my tank... they are doing great with goldfish. -
