Hi Guys,
Please provide your generous comment on my ranchu - Sumo-san. Poor thing has been left in the tub for long time without proper care. My new year resolution : "Bring out the best of Sumo-san"!!!

So to all the guru out there, any advice would be greatly appreciated!

What a cute-looking TVR...
But cute should not be used on a TVR

I'm sorry to tell you that it has been stunted already. I guess there's nothing much left for developement on this piece.

Body too short and peduncle too thin.Not a good specimen TVR.

Nice head I must say...if it is not a young fish.
Tail okay.
I wish the body to be much longer.

This fish is unfortunately stunted. It will remain at this size, or maybe at most one more inch to go, for as long as it lives.

Other than that, it is a fine ranchu. But it will certainly be more finished if the body is longer.

I hope that the stuntedness will not discourage you from taking good care of it.

Hi guys,
Thanks for your comments on this ranchu. Yes, its a 'cute' ranchu but to me, its still an attractive 'chuchu'

Frankie, how can you tell its stunned? As a newbie, i only found out after a year.

Anyway I still love this fish. If you guys have any suggestions to improve this guy, please let me know.

The proportionality of the eye to body of this piece is a sure tell-sign.

It did not show one year ago, probably because you bought it as a healthy fish. Some mishandling on this fish caused it to be stunted as it is now.

There is absolutely no cure to stuntedness. It is finished at this present size and I can't see anymore improvement you can do other than maintaining it as it is now.

I think it is a nice ranchu to keep for your viewing pleasure. If I own this ranchu, I will surely send it for the coming competition.

Give it good water, good food and plenty of sunlight and it will grow well.

BTW, care to share where you bought this nice fellow.

I agree that this is a good piece of ranchu. Only shortcoming is the shortened body. Also the peduncle is a little thin to my liking.

To the Frankie who posted this, a stunted fish is a fish that will NOT GROW further. Give it good water or plenty of good food, it will still not grow. Do spend some time reading up on "stunted fish" before giving others futile hopes like this.

If a goldfish was stunted young (about 4 inches), the fins/tail will at a later stage, grow out of proportionality and turn this fish into a waste.
