nice blackie.

i like black ranchus, i got 2 black thai myself, my very very very 1st 2 ranchu.. they are still alive and kicking butt!!.. altough one do has boyancy problem..

err.. hope u dun mind my comment.. issit the tail a tit too big?? but tat prob explain why u got a hard time chasing it wink.gif

actually its not too long.
however thai black ranchu tend to have a slightly bigger tail than those red/white ones....

in my pic, it appeared to be very long becos the fish is tilting slightly head down....so the tail is closer to the camera...thus appearing very big...
hahaha biggrin.gif

good_very.gif a young blackie, perhaps u can work on it in your green water. it would be interesting... as i have been seeing the effects of bros green water on red/white ranchu. seems not many like blackie biggrin.gif

i still remember the pair of black ranchu hug.gif in aquarama.. boy .. not a hint of gold on those black scales.. man ..

no matter how black your fish is, after keeping in greenwater, the colour will fade to gold... tongue.gif the effect is almost instant....

but it will become black again after you transfer from greenwater to indoor tank....
WHY?? becos greenwater, the PH value is to high.... high PH will cause black to fade...

It all depends on the gene of the fish, if the parent is originally full velvet black and the selection process is tight and the quality is of AA or AAA then it should not mutate at all, as a matter of fact it stays black all the time even when it grows.

Maybe bro ET would like to make a comment on this subject of fading black in green water. I recall he actually turned his fish (I think it was a demekin) from "panda" to black after putting it in green water.

So... maybe the green water is bad for black fish thingy is not true. Afterall, high pH is suppose to leave the fish's protective body slime alone while a low pH robs it away.

hmm....another debating point....
well, for my case, i experienced it with black ranchu.... thai...
it fades....

i brought up this issue to both Seah(AC) and Alvin....both stated the same reason regarding high PH qualities of GWater....

maybe i will try a before/after pic of my blackest Thai ranchu and see the differnence....

erm....it might be....i might agree with you in some way....

you are right about the genetic part....personally feel that the genes of black ranchu are still unstable....

He looks gray because I don't know how to fix the lighting for proper fish photography.

But in real life, he is black, black, black!

i had a black thai ranchu that turned more black in green water..
i guess if it fades.. could be due to the green water intensifying the red to make the fish appear fading?
