Gaining 2 inches in 5 months may be a little lower then the norm, nevertheless I feel it's a good effort.
The headgrowth is very pronounced. Combined with the slow growth (which can be attributed to a number of factors), it may be a signal that this fish is older then it really is and reached its maximum potential? $40 for a 2 inches ranchu is very expensive, isn't it? |

The slow growth is likely due to the fact that I have only recently discovered the nitrate levels in my tank was too high. The headgrowth increased the most when it spent the month of July in outdoor pond. I paid $40 without any second thoughts the moment I saw the fish. There are some imperfections but at that point of time the headgrowth is already quite prominent which won me over. The reason I said "only 40" is because it is one of the cheapest in my collection yet one of my favourites. |

QUOTE(mrchoco @ Sat, 02 Oct 2004 6:13 am) But I noticed that not only this fish,my others as well, when it is put in green water the headgrowth increases but at the same time they seem to lose their "transparency". |

This is an unusual ranchu.
The head (as in the whole head) seems too big in size (nearly 1:1) relative to its body. The back isn't smooth but I guess it's not obvious when the fish swims. From the pic, I'm guessing it has an inverted "Y" tails (when looked from behind)? An inverted "V" is ideal. |

This short-bodied ranchu has very well-developed wens. I like its body curvature, although there are about 3 kinks along its back. The colouration is also unique, that the coloured part is at the bottom of body instead of the (more common) top part. Please continue keeping it in green water to enhance the faded scales.
Overall, this is a good specimen. |

Don't ruin this "unusual" ranchu by overstocking your tank hor. It's a sin!
