Ga 106 - Dragon Eye, Calico Telescope Options

Hello. I am a new member from New York. I want to know what you think of my new calico butterfly. I know that this piece does not really hold up by your standards, but consider that for America, this fish is considered high end, and I actually paid a pretty high price for it. I just wanted to know what things I can do to improve the appearance of this fish. Consider that it has only been in my posession for 2 days, and was shipped to me from Texas.



I also wanted to add that the top edges of the pectoral fins curl down, and the tail ends curl in. Can these defects be fixed?

Coming from Texas would mean from Tommy Hui from A's Aquarium, right. Or, from his auction maybe. Tommy is somehow related to the folks at Tung Hoi Aquarium in China so this may be a good fish.

Because I have a fish from Tommy, also butterfly, I am interested to hear comments on your fish also. For me, ruffian American that I am, I would want to see a top view to see the tail. And for me calico is all about the blue.

Might there be comment offered on Tung Hoi fellas? Is it said in Singapore that only B grade fish are sent to America from China? Like because that's all we can handle or all we would be willing to pay for. Its kinda what we figure. No Japanese goldfish here at all.

Hi,

Over here this variety is also known as butterfly tail dragon eyes.The curl in the tails are perfectly acceptable,depending on how the curl is,but I am no expert in this field.There are a few members here who specialise in these and may offer a better comment.However, this variety is usually better appreciated from the top , as you can see from most pics of this type of fish in the forum.It would be better if you can provide a top view pic of this fish for better comments.

Not all dragoneyes are appreciated from top. But if it is sold to you as "Butterfly-tailed" then it should be appreciated from top.

And can you please also provide a picture of the curled tail. Do you mean that the tail bone is deformed?

Yeah. That fish is indeed from Tommy. I won him in last weeks auction, and ended up dropping over 200 bucks for him shipping included. I'm sure that this will make most everyone on this forum not from America choke on their food, but thats how much he cost, and considering the comparative quality of the other fish here, I don't think that I overpaid. I really wish I could go to Singapore and have a FIELD DAY in your pet stores. I might have to fill a plane all by myself with those amazing fish I am seeing in the gallery. Lucky Lucky Lucky. Btw. He has next to no blue on him. I have been told that Chinese breeders do not breed for much blue, and as far as all calicos go, the bluest fish come from Japan. Is this true? I bought him based on his qualities as a sideview, as his back is more curved than any other dragoneye I have seen for sale recently. I was actually looking for a broadtail, but this fish's sideview looks pleased me. I will post a top view picture of him tomorrow, as I cannot find my digicam right now.
Please also critique this fish as a SV if at all possible.

Fish seems to be a Tung Hoi signature type ... not a bad fish. looks balance. color wise, not too bad. overall fish should be in the high mid level grading fish. For USD200, u can get a superb grade 3-4" dragon already.

Can take a clear shot on the fish side profile ? I like to see the scale more clearly.

NO.

the pectoral tip will tends to curl as it grow older. It's absolutely normal. Dun worry so much. The tail ends curl inward is due to the tail structure. U can't do anything to correct it. However, do maintain very low water current and clean water to maintain the tail.

Not all dragoneyes are appreciated from top. But if it is sold to you as "Butterfly-tailed" then it should be appreciated from top.

Butterfly tail refered to the Tail, not the way it should be appreciated.

The left and right tail are even, it was just the camera angle. However, the eyes are slightly off from one another. Like I said before, I am alot more interested in comments dealing with this fish from a SV point of view.

Is there anything I can do about that? Feed fatty foods like bloodworms and beefheart maybe? I will try to set up a green water tank for him when the weather warms up. Do you think that would also help?

It is about maintaining good water for your prized pet.

no amount of good food will help if your water is screwed up.

This is a nice calico with beautiful fins.
The fish is probably still adjusting to the new environment given that you had just got it for 2 days.
No hurry, take your time to feed this fish and I am sure it will look different(i.e more beautiful and fuller body) in a few weeks time.
