Are the eyes cloudy? If you had one with good eyes for comparison it would be easy to see the difference. I have a blind one too. Don't know if it is more common in black ranchu, but they are not all blind.

the eyes is not cloudy , infact the whole head is black and i cant really see the shape of the eye .. but the wen is not covering the whole socket yet so i can still see a tiny bit of the eye.Too bad i dont hab a gd camera to take a pic of the ranchu.
The fish can still live well even without eye sight ??? |

Could I rephrase your question: Can the fish eat well without eye-sight?
Regarding this question, I can answer: Yes, they can still live and eat well WITHOUT eye-sight. As long as I know, the fish (not only black ranchu but also other goldfish variety) eye sight coverage is only about 5 cm. So they sense food using the smell of the food, NOT by looking at the food. As my experience myself, I raise lots of black ranchu on my fiber pond right now. Most of them are "losing" eye-sight since they are 7-8 cm because of their wen development. But still they can eat well. And they always look hungry all the time. Thanks |

chandramerpati, do you try to trim off wen so fish can see or just let them go blind?

Hi Steve,
Nope. I don't trim their wen and let them just go blind. That's one of my black ranchu. She is about 14-15cm now. Already give me hundreds of offsprings. |

Can i further rephrase the question....
Can goldfish rely not only on sight/smell---what about sound? Since my goldfish are fed by auto-feeder....and as soon as the feeder rotates they rush to the feeder waiting for the pellets to drop. |

SEE NO EVIL SMELL NO EVIL HEAR NO EVIL but............ EAT ALL THE EVILS Incidentally this fish was featured in the yardstick to measure its blackness and now is very close to 6 inch The headgrowth is undergoing a growth spurts at the moment and very much the characteristic of a black Thai female. |
