the seller didn't give me much media.... only one white and black filter pad..
i went to C328 and buy EF ceramic rings only.. the shop did suggest Biohome but I told them i will want to go back and check the net for more information.... (never trust LFS) reading some thread on RG regarding the media.... from coral shells to Biohome to EF Substrat, I am quite confuse what should I really need.... Setup 2 Feet Tank 50 Litres, 98% filled up. *WC 20-30% weeky / 100% monthly before having the Eheim 2222 5 x 2.5~3 inch Ranchus Dolphin HOF Eheim 2222 (New add-on, 2nd hand however) / White Filter Pad inside empty tray TOP / Black filter pad inside tray fill with Ceramic Rings I wish to know if... 1) Should I remove the Dolphin HOF 2) Can I do less-er WC after using a Eheim? 3) Do I need to purchase another media for the empty tray now with only White Filter Pad ? The Canister is already running now. Or wait till 6 months later, i wash my Canister and add the new media ?? 4) Do I need 1 more Canister for the 2 feet tank with 5 Ranchus ? Thank you very much and your time. edit : Add a photo of the tank and also a Air Tight Jar for my Hikari Pellets bought at IKEA TAMP, $3.00 !! ![]() Front View ![]() Rain bar and Dolphin HOF ![]() Air Tight Jar, everytime I open, I can smell the freshness ![]() This post has been edited by teckheng: Tue, 03 Mar 2009 4:15 am |

Specs for eheim 2222:
* For tank size up to : 40 gal. * Pump output : 131 gph. * Filter circulation : 92 gph. * Power Consumption : 8 W. * Dimention : 11.4" x 7"x 7" * 1/2" tubing for intake & 1/2" outtake From the specs the cannister is kinda "overprovided" ; it it turning over water at about 360 l/hr for your 50l tank; about 7 times per hour. you can still use it; but water current in tank may be strong. To your questions: 1) Should I remove the Dolphin HOF You can certainly do without it 2) Can I do less-er WC after using a Eheim? NO. You still need to get rid of nitrates. 3) Do I need to purchase another media for the empty tray now with only White Filter Pad ? The Canister is already running now. Or wait till 6 months later, i wash my Canister and add the new media ?? You can put in some media, rings or biohome both OK; biohome better but more expensive. 4) Do I need 1 more Canister for the 2 feet tank with 5 Ranchus ? NO. One is already too much. |

Oooo... because the Eheim 2222 water flow could be adjusted therefore I only set the flow to 50% in, 50% out.... if maths can be apply here and from the calculation, does it means flow rate change to 3-4 turns times per hour instead of 7 times? Will i wear/spoilt the Canister by holding back 50% of normal work flow ? eh... like STRESS it ? Add : The first picture in the first post in this thread, the tank is actually 100% flow in and out. ![]() ![]() ![]() ........ 3) Do I need to purchase another media for the empty tray now with only White Filter Pad ? Thanks CP, how about EF Substrat ? I am not sure if both have a big price gap, but if it's good, money might be a issue less concern over for..... can eat bread for 1 week and save for it... And will you suggest adding the new media now or wait 6 months later or when the flow weakens, then only add the new media when opening the canister??? Never tried EF substrate before; but I think should be good since its Eheim product. Add now; why wait 6 months?

thanks CP again...
how about the water flow calculation ? and will i 'force' the canister to stress up because i tune down the water in and output ? do you know the price gap for EF substrate & biohome ? from your reply, sounds very expensive. This post has been edited by teckheng: Tue, 03 Mar 2009 6:41 pm |

Another Qns:
Do you allow the fish poos to enter the canister ? My fish tank is now running very clean, i hardly need to net any fish poos, which worries me a lot as I know all the poos are inside the green bucket with all the CRings and Biohome. Nowadays all the poos i net out from the floating types... all the sinking type are suck into the canister, one way in, no way out. |
