I recently bought a bottle of 4oz genesis water conditioner in the US. I hear that there are fakes out there? I see online that the bottle is transparent with white cap. Mine is a white opaque bottle with all the same labels. Is this real?

ah lau, those info are too old. genesis keep changing their packaging[probably to fight imitation] but sad to say, they catch up real quickly too. latest was a round bottle but too was followed and i differentiate by making sure there are residues on the base before shaking, not the dilute type. walao, they maybe watching me too closely, now in round white[opaque] bottle. p/s ; sorry key board cap lock spoil... |

The active ingredient in genesis is sodium thiosulfate, right? Those this chemical compound remove both chlorine and chloramine or only chlorine?

Sodium thiosulfate will break the bond between chlorine and ammonia in the chloramines. The chlorine is neutralized, but the ammonia is released into the water. Your biofilter will remove the ammonia eventually. But, you have to be careful if doing a large water change because the amount of ammonia released could be toxic. If you use Amquel or ChlorAm-X it will remove the chlorine and bind up the ammonia so it is not toxic. Even though the ammonia is bound, it is still consumed by the biofilter eventually.
