I hear that goldfish may prefer some sort of hiding place. Decorations and other tank plants that do this are not necessary to a happy and health if want the fish to grow bigger, are they?

I used to have gravel and decorations and live plants in my goldfish tank.

But these items makes siphoning the muck out extremely difficult so I decided to go with the empty tank style for the sake of my fishes.

I do not think that a hiding place is as important as clean and healthy water for them.

I think decorations are mainly to satisfy our need of seeing things being occupied/decorated so it doesn't look empty/boring/dull.

And trust me, cleaning the tank will be so much more easier and faster without things getting in the way.
