Hi may I please ask at what age do fancy goldfish, a young ranchu in particular, reach they're full main size?
The above question applies to the circumstances of a 54litre aquarium and 1 ranchu inside. Also if stunted, can a fancy goldfish continue to grow if given a larger aquairum for it remaining life? thanks chris |

Hi Chris,
I have tracked your questions so far (and mean no disrespect) but feel you lack experience. Please consider joining one of the goldfish societies who have a wealth of knowledge to offer you. The GSGB is the main one for your location, I'm sure you will benefit greatly and maybe even acquire some stock from top breeders within the UK! No offence taken, after all your only a newbie like myself. But you didnt have to bother answering if your answer didnt apply to my question.
I was trying to ask what age is considered an adult goldfish. I've heard stunted yearlings kept in green-water in vast ponds do continue to grow, generally around 5inches inches max though. Please can someone with an actual answer to my question let me know. thanks chris |

Ranchu are considered adult by year 3 however, they can reach sexual maturity at year one if spawned early and grown on fast. Females are best between 3-6 years old, after which fertility may drop off. Males can be used from year 1 onwards but normally 2nd year as larger and more virile. Size doesn't necessarily matter but "quality" does. Stunted fish can grow but normally very slowly. You can give them the best possible conditions but in most cases the damage has been done. Green water will not make fish grow bigger, faster by itself and unless monitored properly can have the reverse effect. Ranchu can grow 20cm plus depending on climate, conditions, food etc but if they reach 15cm plus in England your doing ok. By the way, we're talking potential growth! Hope this helps Keith |
