QUOTE(Secretary @ Sun 16 May 2004 07:59 PM) 4 inch Sideview ranchu Comments please No need to go detail. This is a future Show Grade thai ranchu. Extreme high potential if under the hands of advance level hobbyist. But I guess this fish when sold in lfs, sure to be just a slightly lower grade fish and not as expensive as compare to those of same size. |

Quality is not good at all... 1. head growth minimal. this can be corrected to a certain extent thru good keeping. 2. humpback. 3. arching of back is way too much, leading to tail seated too low. point 2 & 3, can't be corrected. |

I'm sorry, but this ranchu doesn't turn me on. The backbone is too curvy, to the extend the fish appears rounded. It won't grow much, and judging from the size of its eyes it probably should be larger then it is now. Keep it in green water and maybe it can grow a little but not much more after that. Just go around and look at large sized sideview ranchu; which one has such a round coin-like (modern coin!) shape?
The tails. In this pose it doesn't look like the ranchu is swimming so it's stationary yet the tails looks like it is collapsed. The tail joint, due to its overly curved back, is actually tugged inwards! I bet it can't swim well. Sorry. This is no show grade but at best grade A. |

IMHO, this is a good Ranchu but I wouldn't consider it show grade. I think it's the way the pic was taken; the back isn't as humpy as it seem. And maybe the ranchu was pressed or held close to the glass wall, making the tails look like it has collapsed. If this ranchu was picked up inexpensively, it's a great catch! Would the owner please reveal how much was paid and where did he find this ranchu? Thanks. I think Bro Laserguy will love this one. Wait, maybe this is bro Laserguy's ranchu!?

For a 4 inch ranchu, this fish does not have a well enough developed head.
The head also seems large in proportion to the body It will not grow to a big size - normally fish with such an acute angle between the caudal peduncle and the tail means the size will at most be 5 inches or so. Large ranchu if you notice, have a less acute angle - more like ~ 90 degrees or thereabouts However, the topline has a smooth curve and the scales are nice |

Damn, I'm sorry to say this but I don't like the ranchu even more now. Why does it seems to have a topview kind of tails now? Was the 1st pic really pressed against the glass? Unless mistaken, it looks like the cheeks and wen have become smaller now. Sorry but what did you do to this ranchu?

For sideview fish, it has a good overall body shape but that tail... it's bad to have a topview tail on a sideview fish...

Sorry but what did you do to this ranchu? yup, in the first pic, the fish was pressed against the glass.. cheeks/wen smaller? hmMm.. entire fish has grown.. maybe the proportion looks better now? its a ranchu, not lionchu wor didn't do much, just after a month of qt, it went into 2-3months of green water spa |
