I'm planning to get a few from Thai farms, I'll be keeping them in tanks therefore I won't need perfected top view. But before I go ahead and place an order I wanted to know how much should a person pay for a butterfly like the one in the picture I attached?

Best butterfly still from china. Malaysia do produce one of the nicest broad tail black moor which is one really cheap fish at $2-$20 depends on size.

Anyway, butterfly dragon eyes are not very expensive here in Singapore. Inclusive of tail hor ....

2"-3" - 2-5 bucks
3"-4" - 5-18 bucks
4" - 6" - up to 28 or 40 depends on quality.

However, if the fish is a specially selected type like 12-black Panda, then could cost over 20K. 12-red around 300-500. It's 1 in a million, so chances of landing 1 in your hand is rare.

This is the latest addition to my butt family. Quoted price is S$ 2.50...

Bought about 10 pcs of black butterfly moors from the Aquarium shop at Bishan St 12 for $2.50 each some 8 months ago (all given away). Some turned out to be very beautiful. The shop owner told me that it was from Ipoh. One difference I noticed between the Ipoh fish and those claimed to be from Japan is that the distance of the eye to the mouth is almost flat while those from Ipoh is longer. Anyone notice the same thing?

Thank you so much The Matrix! Very useful info! I would love to see more pictures of your butterflies, side view pics if possible? smile.gif

My priority for now is to find butterflies with ryukin body types and good finnage. Basically very similar to the picture I attached. Won't be very picky with colors as long as the red is deep and there's more white on the body/head.

Also yes G-string, I also heard that the best butteflies are from China but no breeder/farm in China would sell and ship to my country unless in very large quantities.

Are butterflies in Thai farms not so good? In other words, is it harder to find a good butterfly outside China?

Also in Singapore, a fish like the one I attached would be sold for how much? I just don't want to be taken advantage of.

In Singapore, a fish like that ? Difficult to find. But even have, not expensive. probably S$ 30-40. Tunghoi fish will cost over 100 for such.

Your specification of fish that you are looking for quite stringent. Not easy to find at all. Still not picky ... very very picky already.

Find an importer at Europe then see how u can ship it down to UAE. Furthermore, u dun get to pick at all. So rather endure the pain .... see pics will do. Another way is to write to TungHoi. Seek their help. But expect the prices to jump.

The thing about Thailand is that it's cheaper and easier for me to order fish from, I've ordered some Ranchus in the past and didn't have trouble. Europe I imagine would be much harder as I know there's long periods of quarintine before shipment envolved and naturally ordering from there will cost more too.

I've contacted TungHoi in the past and they replied with an attachment of prices for retail [orders by boxes with 20 fish minimum!]. I sent again explaining I'm an individual seeking fish for my private collection and got no reply. sad.gif

Breeders also refuse to ship their fish, a person must acquire the fish personally from them. Which makes the whole thing hard but I'm not giving up cause I think I deserve at least a few good goldfish, the fish they sell in our local LFS are all culls with very obvious flaws. mad.gif

Hamad,

Why not try working out some deals with the LFS and help them to import on their behalf? Maybe a "win win" situation.

I will talk to them again and see! Thanks for the tip goldfish Lover, cause I think that's the only way to get an order from TungHoi.

By the way Hamad, what type of colour you are looking for? I have bought some black ones for S$2.50 each from the LFS in Singapore. If it is black ones, that you like, then maybe the Malaysian ones are OK and cheaper. I am sure if you buy a few hundred pieces, then you might be able to get it really cheap and can choose the best for yourself. Maybe you can try Alvin Lim's website. He might be able to help you.
