I cant help it but to ask this sensitive question.

Can somebody comment on the size of the eyes with respect to its body.

Mod, if you think this is not the right time pls do what you deem is necessary.

no its not a sensitive question. Most folks can tell the difference between a stupid question about the size of an eye vs your query for size of an eye for a juvenile fish.

Yes.. size of an eye can tell if the fish is stunned or not. it would be compared against the size of the head, the body and the age. the last factor is hard to tell if you buy any fish size L and above. ops.. i meant something like 3" (my own personal gauge) and abv. for myself and G-string, we are fairly confident this ain't a runt as the fish is barely pass fry stage <-- (blow cow too much, its a young fish.. not a fry anymore)as compared to its companions we picked from. then again... its a game of chance as well.. the fish could be stunned by other reasons along the way. give me a chance ..say 4 mths ?? it ain't gonna grow into a monster Oya as i only have this little space at home but it will grow ..

damn it better grow... laugh.gif too many pros watching..

Er... dun quite understand your first statement, anyway thank you for the reply.

I did my assessment base on the body size, tail, head...and come to the decision to ask this question. If this fish companions at QH happen to be its slibings then i would like to think that this fish belong to the "fish tail" (slow growth) group and therefore it has higher chance to be stunted and also means that its diet might need to be more nutriention.

Anyhow look forward to your update.

Happy fishkeeping!!!
mountain
curious.. food nutriention has effect on prevention to be stunned?
i only know of 3 factors a fish can be stunned. 1 of which is bad water.

Again, this is my personal experience, have not go for patent yet. Kekeke!!!

If you could recall my thread on the effect of market prawn. That fish under experiment is deem stunt as it jus refuse to growth even in a 4 ft tank with 2 other companions only. After trying MP, it growth quite significantly especially on the head. That where i drew the conclusion that better nutriention food has some effect to improve a stunt fish but not eliminate the stuntness.
mountain
oh .. yei .. the prawn thread.. sorry.. wasn't paying attention.. too sleepy..
i figured at that time the pawn meat will make me grow rather then my fish so i tend to finish all the prawns myself..

did your fish get sick along the way? or under medication or salt?

Nothing sensitive about it. It is good that you brought it up.

This ranchu is still very young. So long as it pass it's 3inch or 4 inch benchmark, the body will slowly grow and the eyes will soon be in proportion. You have to take note that fishes in their fries stage has very big eyes too. So let it grow for say 2-3 months plus to allow it to grow into proportion. Remember a good bro mention about the tail. It is still of good proportion/size in this picture here.

I know you worry about stunted fish.. but just rememeber:
A fish having "eyes bigger than the cheeks" IS NOT stunted

MUAHAHAHAHAAAAA.....sorry... ahem!

sorry, sorry blush.gif

Too lazy to dig it up but....

It was agreed that we measure all goldfish from the head to the end of its tails.

Your ranchu is therefore 6.5 cm.
