Hi low sorry (not high/ Low)

Many LFS carry these fishes nowadays but you must be patient and hunt in some ulu places. You'll be surprised some of the smaller shops and places carry such gems.
I ,ve already disclosed some of these places in my previous thread. So read them

I have to agree with you Matrix
The thai fish will not improve further
But the chinese fish has lots of potential in terms of size and finishing. It is precisely bought for the future.Easily if well kept can reach 1 kg. in weight and massive in size!

it's alreay 20 yrs of refining the body and head !!! Maybe another couple of years before the tail take better shape. 1 year only breed 1 time, dun expect things to move fast.

Do you notice that the chinese breeders do not grade their fish ? just sell everything at a common price. so if u are lucky, can get very good fish at relatively low price.

Doc got a pretty decent piece.

Agree that doc's piece is a nice Chinese ranchu that I have seen, but then again I have not been exposed to many Chinese ranchu anyway.

I have always (and still) preferred Thai ranchus (despite being Chinese kekeke).
I find that Chinese ranchu while having the advantage in size, tend to lose out not only on the head and tail but the scales as well.Scale are usually too big for my liking.

But when it comes to ryukin......no fight lah.Give me a Chinese ryukin anytime...
Seacucumber
doc,
there's seems so be something wrong with your chinese fish....
but i will not tell you...
in 3 months time you will see....

Just flipped thru to his other Cantonese fishes, cant help but noticed that these Cantonese fishes all seem to have mouth that points downwards.Like a beak.

http://www.RafflesGold.com/forums/index.ph...T&f=4&t=2311&s=

Wonder if there are any preferences for ranchus on the type of mouth, but I do know that a downward pointing mouth is usually preferred in a Ryukin.

Yo,doc, do they have problems feeding on floating pellets heh heh heh......

hahahahaha Seacucumber, your comments sound too familiar leh but very uncharacteristic of you to make it.In 3 months time (after BMT)I will update all of its well being.I'm only too worried of chinese fish being SBD prone,so have to feed sparingly. But these fish are realltyvoracious feeders!

Why har ??? can teach newbie ? beg2.gif beg2.gif ( I think color can improve leh )

newbie's humble opinion blush.gif :
thai ranchu better than the PRC ranchu :
- better tail <- as mentioned by almost all the members
- better head growth ( cover eyes )
- smaller scales

Body shape wise, both are nice - good curvature, but I prefer thai tongue.gif

Goldrush, can reveal which is more expensive ? PRC or Thai ?
goldrush
Of course PRC much much cheaper...............

hahaha ... that's it. I guess I am the only one out again.
I prefer chinese fish than the thai. Not becos of the price, maybe the scale put me off sometime, but when comes to tail, wen and body mass, nothing beats the chinese.

Anyone purchase the TungHoi DVD and VCD at the show ? Watch the DVD and u will know how big is this fish.

goldrush
To begin with,I do not purchase show quality fish.Of course I do not expect it to go very far.I just want any member's honest opinion base on their experience of keeping this particular line.Everybody is entitled to their own tastes and fancies.Correct me if I'm wrong but I ve yet to see this line being discussed and further dialogued in this forum and it is my pleasure to share with you all, this particular breed which I deem promising and should not be discarded. hmm.gif

goldrush
desireless
Goldrush,

The PRC is a decent purchase. Is its tail slightly inbalanced? Like Laser commented earlier, only one side is wrap-around.

Anyway, it is evident that most PRC ranchus have coarse scale alignment. This is a big turnoff to me. Another trait I observe is the shallow peduncle (This COULD be reason why their tails are not so erected). I would prefer deeper ones myself. So unless I see a super good one, I would normally avoid buying PRC ranchus.

Ya, as usual you are the odd one out again (many times already, lost count).

Disregarding say the top 10% high quality showgrades, ie let us talk majority of the SV ranchus available to us, my take on the advantages of the following traits will be:

Scales - Thai
Tail - Thai
Wen - Thai
Funtans or buffalohead - Definately Thai
Curvature - Thai
Body mass - PRC
Calico variety - PRC

So if you are more into jumbo calicos PRC SV will be a better choice.

Sorry Goldrush to degenarate this thread into Thai vs PRC sideview ranchu but then again we have already had enough of Thai vs Jap TVs so it shd be a refreshing change.............

Quite refreshing and a new kind of discussion indeed.

My choice hor ...

Scale : Thai
Wen : Chinese/Japan
Buffalohead : Chinese/Japan
Curvature : Thai
Body mass : Chinese

Thai got calico meh ?
