I suspect most of us keep Ranchu in our tank.

But myself have Ryukins and Orandas too.

Tell us which varieties of goldfish you currently have at home.
Hamad
Just one oranda right now that's driving me absolutely NUTS...but I'm sure my list will gradually get bigger as I find more nice ones around here.

Oh and btw I kept goldfish, all varieties, since I was 10 so I'm not new to this, everytime I say I have one fish people think it's my first fish LOL However I don't consider myself a good goldfish keeper yet and I'm still educating myself. wink.gif
CyberET
due to space constrain.. else i would like to keep every single variety.. except tosakin tongue.gif

hmm... why do you guys hate tosakin? any reasons? expensive? ugly side view fish? difficult to rear? unsure.gif

BTW, I really head over heels with short tail ryukins... they are my favourites... currently I've got about 30 of them... tongue.gif

If I recall correctly, the 6 inches long ones (with a super nice ranchu tails) costs just $8.

Luckily the LFS old man told me to buy at least ten wakins - "...they look nicer in a group like koi do."

I gave up the idea of keeping just one after that.
Allan
Was at Yung Feng (aquafauna) and saw some long-tails ranchu.

Also saw one Jikin but it's terrible looking; very coarse scales and the tails looks deformed. It costs $48 only, however.

Those "long-tails" ranchus are actually deformed celestial eyes. Ranchu has a shorter and fatter body!

Those Jikins are the real thing though... but low quality craps. wink.gif

C'mon!

As it is now, more people are keeping topview ranchus then sideview ranchus.

I find that hard to believe.

Please don't tell me the reason why you keep topview is becoz they LOOK nice from the top? Isn't how they swim more important?

I have yet seen more than a handful of really nice "looking" topview ranchus anyway but many have very good sideview ranchus.

Have some of you guys fallen into the hype of "topviewing" but don't know what you're doing?

so it's better to buy those nice ranchu which are good in top view and at the same time good in side view... shiok.gif is this possible?

Anyone know what is the name in English for this goldfish. It has a fat round body. They call it 'chu lang' translate sound from Hokkien. These are the other goldfish I have.

Good topview will also be good topview, as long as it is not too big.

This is only applicable for Thai criterion right?

A Jap topview would usually fail their sideview test if we go by a Thai standard. Similarly a Chinese ranchu would fail their topview test.

Why does Japanese topview fail the sideview test?

to my understanding, for a side view, the tail is seen entirely from the side, making it dropy if seen on top. Vice versa for the top view. will look like an aeroplane from the side.

So the side of the tails are not wide spread like in topview then, right?

Should the tail covers the ass fins so that they are not visible from the side?
