I have been keeping goldfish for a while now. Recently decided to keep my 2 small ranchus in green water. They have been in the green water tank for a few days now. Just wonder when I can see some effect on the fishes. Can I also increase the no. of feeds without affecting the water quality since they are kept in green water now?

Huh?
These kind of questions from you?

You've been around quite a while, and have one of the best setup for carpet algae tank.Your questions surprises me.

Anyway,to see the effect, best is take pics lor......before entering green water and after.
Feeding can remain the same as clear water. But more feeding means water gets greener must faster, and do not feed after 2pm.

Why leh? Never use green water before ah mah. Fish already in green water, so don't feel like taking them out for photo shoot.

How come don't feed them after 2pm? unsure.gif

hi infocus, let us know if any difference between the 2 algae? Not after 2 pm cos waste will continue to be released and algae need light to convert ammonia etc

Ok. Will keep you guys updated but I guess I will have to wait some time before I can see any results. Btw, I sudden found a red patch on my snow white. Did not realise it had a red patch before I convert to green water. Don't know is my mind doing tricks on me or is the green water that helps to bring out the colour.

It has been about 3 weeks with green water. Although not too long but the effects so far are promising. My 2 goldfish are now bigger and fatter. Their back are getting thicker than ever. They look healthier and head growth are good. All these happened only within 3 weeks in green water (with more feeds of course). I confidently say green water is better than green carpet (gc) for growth and grooming of the fishes. But if you would like to go for a clear water tank, gc would be a good choice. ie. you can enjoy your fishes swimming in a nice, nature background with the benefit of unlimited algae supplement! As for maintenance, I think green water is easier to maintenance than gc.

Anyone has other results after trying both?

2 fish and 3 wks not enough to make a conclusion lah. Keep longer and more fish will help you understand better.

Ya ya ya, still need much longer to understand better. I'm just impress with what 3 weeks in green water can do and can't wait to share my joy here. laugh.gif
