It doesn't acutally live in a pond. A stock tank is more like it. I should pick my words more carefully. blink.gif

It is a FrogHead (Frog Eyes). It is white and looks like it has a red saddle on its back. It has some tail damage that I'm still hoping will heal. And, it's back is a bit bumpy when looking at its profile.

I'll try to get the photos you asked sometime in the near future. Here's a picture I took about a week ago.

beautiful fish !!! keep it well no matter what flaws it got.

It's a fish hard to come by in Singapore.
How did u manage to get one ? Or commonly found at yr place ?
Sonny
They are not common here but I have found a couple of dealers that sell them occassionally. Ever since I saw this variety I have really liked them. I actually built my stock tank/pond for Frog Heads.

You're probably aware but they are bubble-eyes with small bubbles. I've had my two since July and they seem to be robust fish. Maybe even pond-worthy!

This is my other one...

Indeed they are a kind of bubble eyes. Of course, slight different in structure if really go into detail. Wen-yu variety sure to be very robust. Furthermore, old variety so pretty stable compare to newer fanciful varieties.

Do be careful when u mix this variety with other non-wen-yu varieties. They are big and fast eater so try to monitor other fishes in the share pond.

Got 2 similar type (short tail) from Qian Hu years back, and still remember some of my ranchu lost the eyes because of that. Ended up in isolation netting. mad.gif

Oui, dan feng is dan feng hor ... Egg Fish Phoenix Tail. But phoenix tail must be long broad tail. Short tail is another rare variety - nankin.

In fact Dan Feng is near to extinct. Only a handful of farms still breeding in small quantity, mainly export to European and US.

Asia side probably crazy hobbyists will collect the top range type.

So far everyone plays nicely together in this tank. It contains the two Frogheads, three Ranchu and a Lionhead. I used to keep two Ryukins in there but they did some serious damage. They now live in Ryukin-land. happydance1.gif

I did some searches through the forum to try and glean the meaning of 'wen yu'. I believe it refers to some genetic branch on the fancy goldfish tree. Perhaps based on tail type? Would you be kind enough to explain it for me?

Thanks.

Yup, it's fantail main variety grouping.

Frogheads are moving up in the world...

The tank I was keeping them in was getting over-stocked and I was losing control of the water quality so they moved to the 'Big City'. Good luck guys!

Their trip...
