Saw a previous post with questions in a forum regarding blackness of a black ranchu and the type of water it is kept it. Finally got to digging out my old archive into a old experiment I did in keeping black ranchu in both clear and green water to determine if gene play a key role in the blackness of a ranchu regardless of the color of the water.

Oct 2007 - Kept at home for about two months

Ranchu is charcoal black

Brought it outdoors in Dec 2007. Last pic taken Apr 08 after water change. Notice the seed water in the basin at the lower right corner of the pic.

Another angle shot of the charcoal black belly.

My conclusion is that the blackness of the ranchu lies in the gene. In addition, the health of the fish plays a part too in maintaining the blackness.

What do you think?

There's also a similar experiment conducted by Dr Goldrush on a few black ranchus some time back and I believe the effects are the same.

Sometime ago,I conducted a similar experiment and concluded that the color of water does not affect the blackness of black ranchus neither is food with enhancer got any significant influence. However the quality of water and light play major roles in improving it.

Here's a recap of what i did some 4 years back
