Bros and Expert out there...
Bro I know that Tamid need (none colour enhancer) diet and sunlight to maintain its black coat, but now i had a question. I had a Tamid that had a pretty black coat but now due to it living in my home tank (lack of Sunlight) is starting to loss a bit of its black coat, if i bring it out to an outside tank with amp. sunlight and green-water and start a pure BW diet would the Black coat recover...? ![]() |

A good quality tamid (ya,talking bloodline and genes again) will not lose its black even if kept without sunlight or fed colour enhancer foods.
I dont consider all black ranchus as tamids. To me,tamids are strictly from Thailand. Look closely at the black ranchu's scales. If the scales are shiny or reflective these are the types that may turn golden brown or end up with white belly. A good quality tamid's scales should not shine - it should be in "matt" finish. It is like a piece of black cloth draped over the shiny scales.Sometimes you can see this layer 'torn' off revealing the inside of the scale which has a golden shine. And these 'torn' off layers will usually grow back within a week, provided that your water quality is good. |

QUOTE(Nic @ Thu, 17 Mar 2005 12:02 am) Hi Nic, I cant be too sure but i think so. ![]() It is not easy to find a 100% charcoal black and I have yet to see one.Normally tend to have lighter black tone or golden near belly. Check this out: http://www.RafflesGold.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=1294 Considered by many a very good tamid yet the few shades of gold at belly is unavoidable. |

this has been a very debative question since the beginning of goldfish discussions....hehehehe..
i had seen black ranchu kept in greenwater and the colour is superb... and also i had seen a very black ranchu kept in greenwater and colour faded to a total bronze after a few weeks... after much observation with a black ranchu of mine kept indoors with biological filtration, i happen to find out that the black coat is somehow or rather affected by light.... in the morning after switching on the 1st ray of light for my tank, i would realise that the black coat is not that black....showing a bit of golden shade at the belly and on the sides....but after leaving the light on for about 30 mins, it had actually regained its black coat! try this experiment and see for yourself... |
