Not bad, but the pic was taken at an angle to the tank and the ranchu looks distorted? It's not that fat, is it? tongue.gif

i like this piece head growth and cheek.
but i prefer it to be more proportional to its body. got a similar piece like this.

but this one the tail appear to be torn.
apart from the a/m, i think it is a AA grade piece, am i right? nanik

head is good...
but a slightly shorter body and a little more arch at the rear will look better....

the 1st half of the fish looks good. the 2nd half of the fish doesn't look good. tail is seated too high, so the fish doesn't look balanced. i also find the tail too short from top to bottom.

I like the red color at the base of the tail. Nice head.

Like what g-string and square_guy said, a little more arc at the rear which also means a lower seated tail, that would make this fish close to perfect for me.

I would prefer a fish gradually arch on the back and with more pronouce/faster arch at the tail portion. The body looks too short due to the big round tummy. I prefer egg shape fish. smile.gif

With burging reduce by 1/3... it would make an ideal fish for me. BTW it's just my preference. And the maybe the tail a little smaller.

Wow leow... you guys could tell from that pic? I'm hoping Nanik would take another pic showing the fish side-on. As it is now, I find the tails are way too small (but then they're probably not when seen in the flesh.) I like those cheeks though. I would definitely go for another one with coloured fins; white ones disappears in the tank (to me at least) and make the fish looks deform. smile.gif

nice head and colour
back and arc could be better. Perhaps it can be a good top view as well.
for side views, generally I prefer good bends.

Hi all,

Thanks for all the comments, really appreciate it. The fish that I posted is not from our farm, it's from an importer who owns a shop, which he imports from Thailand. Not sure what grade it is as the owner is not willing to tell me (I think he is also not sure because he told me he picked it up because he likes the colour and also the head growth. Fair enough).

The tail is quite short but it's not that very short, only a bit short than what is an ideal tail. The body is a bit "bumpy" not smooth, though it's not obvious if you stand from far rolleyes.gif . The head and the "hood" is good along with the colouration, and yes the stomach is a bit "bulgy" but that's because of the photos, not because it is very fat rolleyes.gif (I'm not good at taking pictures)

But overall, this fish is not bad at all but of course you can't call it a showclass, as it is nowhere near to the showclass fish. shiok.gif, but I think it is a good exercise for us to see what is good and bad about a fish. But what I learn so far about fish, especially with ranchus, is that in every bad feature of a fish we can find a good feature about it too, so overall it complements each other peace.gif

Cheers
Nanik

Nanik, is this ranchu in your own collection? Do show us updates in a few months time. I'd love to see how people groom their fish. I mean... everyone can buy new fish but to keep and groom them well is something a deep pocket can't help much. smile.gif Fish is not like static commodity where you can buy the best and keep it wrapped in a safe. You need to groom it well. And that's what keeping goldfish is all about, isn't it?

I'm a lousy keeper. mad.gif

I throughly enjoy reading while you guys critique each others fish.
I however do like the comment made on another topic "It is a good fish
if you like the fish".
Don't we all have our own eye for what we think is an attractive specimen?
What's perfect to one isn't necessarily so to another. Nevertheless, I enjoy
reading your comments. yes.gif
