Guys, Overall the competition was pretty dissapointing. No photography allowed. Fishes were all stressed out mad. Mostly tung hoi specimens, not too bad but for a competition, it could've been better. Even the 38cm black oranda on display is nothing to shout about. Nothing compared to aquarama or any competition in SG beg2.gif . You would wanna see something that makes u go drool.gif in a competition. Anyway, just my opinion.

Cheers

Not that bad I reckon. I understand that this competition are targeted more towards beginner to intermediate goldfish owners...perhaps for newbies to get a first hand feel & experience in joining competitions. thinking.gif

Nothing to expect much from especially the title of the competition is "Fancy Goldfish" not "Pedigree Goldfish" mah..........overall I would say not bad for many newbies as their fishes are pretty good in coloration & body growth structure just don't bother about the swimming condition as their are shock with the amount of people looking @ them. yes.gif

Felt good as I get to meet "Jackie from Tung Hoi" yesterday!! shiok.gif

photography is a sensitive topic in a competition. Some can open for anyone to take, some due to sensitive restriction that only the organiser has the exclusive rights. Before bombarding the organisers for not allowing to take photo, do understand their concerns first.

Like we look at babies, they are cute when young. When looking at big fish, we look at beauty, grace and shape. It might be difficult to accept, but dun compare an old man with a young baby.

I think based on what impellitteri said, if we were to make the trip all the way from Singapore to see the show, then it might be a waste of time. However if we are staying in KL, then it might be ok to attend the show as put forward by
chochiss. It all depends on your situation and preference.

Oh no.. What a pity to hear that. ohmy.gif I was hoping someone would be there to take photos of some nice fishes... Roughly how many tanks were there?

So Jackie Chan was there? He used to be more involved with competition in western countries.

60 tanks. Majority Tung Hoi fish.

Only 1 category and all 60 fishes of all varieties fight for 3 prizes, very attractive prizes. In fact, this is the first time a show like this is created. For beginners or not, still very encouraging to see the Malaysia counterparts are taking this hobby seriously.

The Grand Champ is a Tung Hoi special Broad Tail Ryukin and 2nd should be a ranchu.

Chochiss, I dun understand how you define fancy and pedigree ... is there any example ?

ok. between fancy & pedigree......over here in malaysia it's pretty clear cut on the fish cos we have:

a) local bred goldfishes i.e from ipoh.....
b) imported goldfishes from china - oso got different types in terms of quality
c) tung hoi goldfishes

you must understand that over here....we can get gfs really cheap but then you'll be surprised to see the goldfish structure itself it's a turn off.

my definition of pedigree means:

- good body structure without any deformity
- well balanced coloration
- good swimming structure
- good health without any physical injuries

if you have seen the contestants over here.......some with teared up fins & massive blood streaks oso not disqualified......so now you get what I mean?

nothing serious but just a wonderful opportunity for new goldfish lovers/hobbyists to participate, experience more, learn & have some fun keeping goldfishes. yes.gif

as for the first prized winner.......I'm not really happy with the results cos there are some real truth behind these winning fishes which it's not appropriate for me to mention in public. good_no.gif wleow.gif

All modern goldfish are fanciful goldfish. Pedigree, well, probably you meant by well-groomed and of good quality.

Sometime cannot blame the organiser as well. If so many fishes disqualified, then no fish to show liao lah. But of course, in any competition, it is where individual showing off their fish and learn from each other and that applies to the general public. Dun just look at the value of the fish.

In any show, there are always some objectives to meet. Sometime something is difficult to balance. It will depends on the determination of the organiser to keep to minimal influence. We just have to keep that in mind.
