Allan's New Chinese Ranchu Options

I don't think Allan will be logging in for the next few days (busy taking care of some personal matters) so I'll help him answer.

Honestly it's tough to explain what are the differences between a top view and a side view ranchu.

Many people are fascinated by "top view" ranchu becoz it has a squarish head.  Some even label any tom, dick and harry Japanese ranchu as "topview" ranchu.  It's like seeing a woman with blonde hair and immediately mistaken the Ah Lian from Bukit Merah an Ang Mo Cha Bor!

So how to tell a real topview ranchu apart?

Unfortunately I really don't know how to even begin explaining it.

I'll try to put it down in words after I gather my thoughts (some day).

I have explained briefly and provided a link for you to study the difference between a top and side view ranchus.

Back to you... So how do you find the colour enhancing effect so far?  Caster finds it good while Allan wants to have a word with you about your recommendation. 

Allan got problem with goldfish veggies meh ???
So far, I have yet to see any visable colour enhancing effect leh.
But then at least the redness of all my GFs are sustaining, not sure which foods are working though ???

hey, can post a pic how the stuff looks like? at least i know wat to look out for when i go to lfs.. i hope there are a few comparable brands i can browse thru, always worth a shot to try new things out .. yei yei ..

Apparently NOT. Basket, I didn't know he went to buy another can after I chong kong the ONE he bought from AC.

Frankly I'm not sure if it is the veggies or JBL goldperl that contributed to ah pui's new coat of colour as I fed both.

One strange thing I noticed, however, is the reddness on its tail is... how do I describe it... more coarse. There seems to be some spot of intense red initially but now the spots are gone and the colour are fluid. [what the fish am I torking about. ignore me.]

how do you know if it is top view or sideway view? you have any writeup of how to choose?

what is nice and what is not nice? 

For top view ranchu, there are some standards to observe, like rectangular head, head-body-tail proportionality, colour, ranchu clan etc. The link bro HB provided gave a lot of real life pictures of champion top view ranchus. You can learn a lot by looking at these pictures. Other than these "standards" in judging, rest is personal preference and personal judgement of beauty (审美观). I found a link here for some general standards on top view ranchu. Maybe you can get a magazine now available at the popular book store call "Fish Love". It is in mandarin. There are some additional info on top view ranchu like how to see the colour types.

HB also has a thread on how to choose a sideview ranchu here.
The info provides some basic standard needed of a sideview. Apart from these basics... still personal perferences. For example some ppl have a strong love for bufflohead ranchu. Some like "lionchu" (some bro came up with that ). Some like calico

Since you are the founder, just to feedback to you my first posting is not so impressive. Got my questions twisted and folded until I gon gon. So, I think it is better to keep my mouth shut like most people do. Then try to figure out myself, just in case i got the impression I offend people again or did I not?

Sorry it took me so long; missed your post earlier.

I suspect those you can buy at grocery stores, unsalted kind, for making soap (usually in a round disc shape) is the same thing?
