This girl was bought a week ago in St.Kilda Aquarium, Melbourne for 110 $AUD.
According to shop owner it was imported from Japan. Body length (without tail) is 8 cm. I see kink on the back, what else do you see? Any comments are highly appreciated. |

Hmmmn eyes abit too big in relation to its body...may not grow as such.Tail carriage abit too low ..so swimming maybe sweeping.Watch out for the redness just lateral to the right eye and right operculum...it may harbour something sinister

Curve is not very smooth. Tail angle too flat. Wen not evenly distributed on both sides.
U paid AUD 110 for a (approx) 10 cm fish?? Sorry mate, but u've been ripped off. My LFS carry similar/better calicos than this & they charge around AUD 45, 60 at most. I've been to St. Kilda Aquarium when I went to Melbourne. They got good fish there, but never knew they charge this expensive. Maybe cos it's from Japan, eh? Probably u should go for Thai instead. |

I think the tail is not tuck enough, it's almost at a 90 degree angle from the back. The perfect angle is 45 degree.
Also the head is too big relative to the body. |

Very poor specimen calico ranchu; looks stunted judging from the size of its tail and eyes.I doubt that its from Japan; more likely from China or Thailand.
Sorry for my frank comments. Frankie |

To me it looks like a Hong Kong fish.

Frankie From my understanding Japan is not on AQIS list of approved exporting country for goldfish so if an Aussie LFS says their goldfish is from Japan never believe it. In Aussie you can get a Chinese AA grade ranchu for $120 |

This fish's back is pretty bad, but the wide angle of the tail tuck, along with the messy look of the tail, and even the way it is carried, makes it so very much worse. If it had a decent tail tuck, the bumpy back wouldn't be as noticeable, but these two issues together make for a very unappealing impression. Goldrush is right about the raw areas in the wen. That does not bode well at all. You'd do well to keep this fish isolated from the general population for a few weeks.
