Nice big skull and impressive osa.
The tails seem to have gone a little out of shape? How do you house the ranchu? Deep tank with strong current? The back might be too curved...? But overall a very nice ranchu. |

tail seems ok, it might look bad prob the photo was taken when fish is turning.
good head and overall body shape with nice scales to top it up. big tail seat(osa) is a plus point. this fish spells POTENTIAL! |

The head is the most impressive point for me on this fish. Its long and rectangular and will provide a good base for an impressive wen display.
The photo shot is no good to make decent appraisal of tail. However in the younger shot it shows good potential. Perhaps it could have been divided a bit more. Its hard to tell but is the tail core a little thickened in older shot? The colour intensity of the finns is superb. Good solid infusion right to the tip. Scales look neat at the front of the fish but for some reason become coarser at the rear. Perhaps maturity will improve. Its still a young fish. In conclusion a very nice fish. Unmistakably of good Japanese blood. Forrest. |

I think the scales look coarser at the rear because it probably has a sharp turning downward backarch toward the tail resulted that the scales are stretched. |

In my local UK goldfish show tremendous importance is placed on the colour infusion of the fins.
Fish that have colour as strong and full as this fish are well thought of. Is it the same for you guys or is less importance given to this aspect in your country. I have heard little comment on academy on this subject and this puzzled me??? Forrest. |

Olddog, if you have a chance to grab hold to the Jap ranchu magazine, look at the winning competition fishes at club's level. You will notice several completely white fish getting top 5 positions. How to judge a white fish in a white basin ? Beats me. Only the japanese masters know. |

QUOTE(Frankie @ Sat 26 Jun 2004 04:18 AM) "look at the winning competition fishes at club's level. You will notice several completely white fish getting top 5 positions. " Yes, a top quality solid white ranchu, ones with well formed pure white wens, are regarded highly in Japanese shows. I have been informed that the pure white head is considered a more difficult challenge to obtain good development from than a red or yellow one. In conclusion finding an unblemished white body in combination with a well developed wen is obviously going to be a rarity. So I can understand how they would be held in high rank and regard. That’s a good point for us all to give feedback on. Personally I find red the easiest to develop, closely followed by butter yellow. I find white the least progressive wen. How do other members find wen colour influence on development? The point I was trying to make about the fin colour infusion was that if a fin was coloured then it should be coloured intensely without any transparent areas in it. (Just like this fine example) This observation was from local UK shows. I have seen plenty of Japanese multi coloured tails that seem well ranked so perhaps it’s just a UK fish judging trait! However Japanese pectorals and other fins seem to follow the UK mythology in that if they are coloured, then they should be intence and solid. Balance is obviously of importance. Forrest (olddog) |

Very nice tosai indeed! Usually, a tosai with this thick backbone do not have a long body. This fish have a very good proportion. A very good potential fish. Please carry on updating its growth. It should be a Thai bred Japanese bloodline .
Did you purchase it in a LFS? |
